ROSEMEAD

KIWANIS

TOASTMASTERS

Rosemead Kiwanis is a co-branded Club, lending its name to the Rosemead Kiwanis Toastmasters, whose members largely overlap active Rosemead Kiwanis participants.  Every other Thursday meeting with rare exceptions is alternately a Rosemead Kiwanis service club meeting or a Rosemead Kiwanis Toastmasters meeting.

Why this unique arrangement?

Originally it was done as a means of hopefully bolstering new membership. This worked to a limited although not spectacular extent - our current President, Ernie Ayala joined the club specifically for Toastmaster benefits, as have several others.  But over time two other advantages have emerged:

1) Toastmasters have activities which transfer very nicely to our sponsored

groups.  Both the Lincoln Training Center and our after school program utilize

     these resources.

2)  Toastmasters training enables members to develop the skills needed to be part

of a speaking bureau.  This is important because opportunities exist to present

subjects before audiences in our community. One example are the Friday

morning parent academies at various schools, where topics are selected by

the parents, then a presenter is sought out.  In addition to these "command

performances" there are also opportunities to deliver presentations on various

      Kiwanis projects before other groups.

There are other potentials within the Toastmasters program which, as a fully chartered group, Rosemead Kiwanis Toastmasters is free to utilize.  This pursuit has not, however, as yet engendered much interest.
