Rosemead Kiwanis Club

   "Serving the Community Since 1945"

  FARM CITY

  EXCHANGE

The present Farm/City Exchange program involves reciprocal  visitation of youths (usually but not always KEY Club members)  between cities served by the Kiwanis Clubs of District 10  and farming communities served by Kiwanis Clubs in the San Joaquin Valley. Participants are chaperoned and normally reside in the residences of participating Kiwanis members on both ends.

The Farm/City program originally was designed to acquaint participants with the contrast between urban and rural life.  It initially was  part of a larger cooperative nationwide effort between the Farm Bureau federation and Kiwanis International.  This relationship began in 1955 and still continues in some local areas to this day.  However, few Californians live in an historic rural environment. The program as presently constituted primarily an educational field trip for all involved, with an emphasis on environmental and career familiarization.

Rosemead Kiwanis participation in the 2005 Farm/City Exchange was chronicled in the November, 2005, issue of the RKC Reporter.
