WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2008 – MIKE ENG LEGISLATIVE LUNCHEON

 

Rosemead Chamber of Commerce and other area chambers will host a luncheon featuring Assemblyman (and former KEY Club member) Michael Eng at Almansor Court, 700 S. Almansor, St, Alhambra from 11:30-1:30.  Cost for Chamber members (including Rosemead Kiwanis, which does belong to the Chamber) $25 – others $30. WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2008 – ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY MEETING

 

Topic for this month is “School Safety for our Children. At this meeting, residents, parents, and school officials will have an opportunity to learn safe driving tips around school zones. There will be an open discussion to focus on the pick up and drop off zones around schools, driving etiquette, and safety tips on walking to and from school. In addition, Probation Officer Gutierrez will discuss his role and responsibilities in assisting our youth that attends either Garvey or Rosemead School District.

 

The meeting will be held at the Rosemead Public Safety Center, 8301 East Garvey Avenue (northeast corner of the intersection of Charlotte and Garvey, one block east of San Gabriel Blvd). Free parking is available at a lot in the adjacent Zapopan Park.  For further information call Mandy Wong at 626/569-2292.

 

 

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2008 – RKC MEETING: (Regular Meeting)*

 

Kiwanis and RIF: A Perfect Partnership – a PowerPoint presentation by our own Kiwanian Jan McKay RobertsonJan has been involved in helping Rosemead area schools participate in RIF for many years.

 

 

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 2008 – Latino Heritage Month

 

2008 Recognition Ceremony will be sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Eng’s office from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Grace T. Black Auditorium, 3130 Tyler Avenue in El Monte as part of Latino Heritage Month,  According to an announcement from the Assemblyman’s office ten individuals will be honored “who embody, portray or characterize the essence of Leadership in one of the following fields: Arts, Culture, Entertainment, Business Entrepreneurship, Civic or Community Involvement, Education, Non-Profit Service, Youth Endeavors, Veterans Affairs, and/or Senior Citizen Services. Not every field will necessarily be represented.”  Call Monica Aleman at 626/450-6116 for further information

Rosemead Kiwanis will be dark for its normal meeting due to installation dinner the next evening

 

FRIDAY OCTOBER 3, 2008 – RKC/DISTRICT 10 INSTALLATION

 

Installation dinner for 2008-2009 Kiwanis Division 10 Lt. Governor, our own Ernie Ayala and officers of several Division 10 clubs, including Bob Bruesch and Fred Mascorro as President and Vice President of Rosemead Kiwanis. Location will be the Garvey Park Recreation Center; special entertainment including a magician will be featured.

 

THURSDAY OCTOBER 9, 2008 – RKC MEETING: (Regular Meeting)* 

 

Liposuction – technical name for  medically (mechanically) removing fat from the body featuring Mrs Judy Yoho, office manager of a practice in Pasadena which specializes in this area..

Judaism: What's it All About?  with Rabbi Alan Lachtman (another in our periodic series addressing various religious traditions)

Rosemead Kids – Carol Mahoney, after school coordinator for the Rosemead School district will share with us what Kiwanis can do to be effective in improving life for children and families in the Garvey District.

Richard Perris. (exact topic TBA)  Richard is a filmmaker and owner of the 90+-year-old Crown City Hardware in Pasadena.  His specialty is antique and antique reproduction hardware
