·        NEWS: Recent developments and activities related to Rosemead – the Celebration of Charity awards this past Saturday afternoon was a success; so hopefully will be the monthly safety meeting and a major musical presentation..     

 

·        EVENTS: Activities in and around Rosemead, with emphasis on Rosemead Club meetings and Rosemead Kiwanis Network activities.

 

·         FAX OF LIFE: An inspirational email attachment, courtesy of Scott’s Valley Kiwanis. This one, obviously a carryover from Mother’s Day,  is titled “Moore Mom Humor”

NEWS

 

Celebration of Charity Success --- About 150 parents and others filled the sanctuary of Rosemead’s United Methodist Church Saturday, March 17, to hear service-oriented songs from the Rice Elementary School choir. The music was wonderful and followed a presentation by three outreach groups, each of which (along with the Rice PTA on behalf of the choir) received cash awards from Rosemead-based SIDO (Servants in Deed Outreach).  

 

Safety Meeting This Week --- The monthly Rosemead Safety meeting is coming up Wednesday – and Kiwanis will be having a special information table. We may also be at the RHS KEY Club twice this week. Things are popping!

 

Wicked Wizard of Oz Loose in Rosemead --- The Temple Intermediate School Performing Arts Society is presenting four performances of the Wicked Wizard of Oz this coming week. It is a joint effort of Woodcraft Rangers, Temple Intermediate’s Instrumental and Choral Music classes, Drama Club, College For Kids Program, and Woodcraft Rangers. Single seats are $5 – families of up to 5 members get in for $10. Thursday (May 22, Friday (May 23) and Saturday night (May 24) performances start at 7:00 pm,; the Sunday matinee (May 25) at at 2:00 pm,.

UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS:

 

      

WEDNESDAY MAY 21, 2008 – COMMUNITY SAFETY MEETING

 

The second of what will be a monthly series of meetings on public safety issues will be held at the Public Safety Center, 830-1 Garvey Avenue.  Sponsored by the City of Rosemead with support from the Sheriff’s Department, Rosemead Kiwanis members and other groups these meetings will help harden the target against crime and deal with other safety and disaster preparedness issues.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2008 – RKC MEETING:  Strategic Planning (

 

Focus of the open forum meeting conducted by Kiwanis President Elect Bob Bruesch and board members Frank Quintinella and Art Landing will be reestablishment and definition of a committee system for the coming fiscal year. This reflects growth in both the Club and available opportunities for service. 

           

FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2008 - 2008 ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER LEADERSHIP AWARDS --- 4:30 – 6:30 PM at Monterey Park Service Clubs located at 440 S. McPherrin Avenue, Monterey Park, CA 91754 (see feature story in 5/4/08 issue).

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 28 – cmi FASHION SHOW California Mission Inn, which for decades has been the situs of our Rosemead Kiwanis meetings, will be hosting a fashion show by Drapers  and Damons on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, from 2:00-4:00 in the Inn’s chapel. The show is free, but seating is expected to be limited and reservations are required.

 

 

THURSDAY MAY 29, 2008 – RKC MEETING: to be announced (Regular Meeting)*

 

Miguel Deguzman, Kiwanian and pastor of Rosemead’s Mission United Methodist Church, will share the experiences of his recent trip to the Philippines where his congregation helps support an orphanage

 

        * - unless otherwise indicated, Kiwanis meetings are at 12:10 in California Mission

             Inn chapel’s multipurpose room, 4807 Earle (north of Mission ½ block on west

             side of street), Rosemead. Street parking is normally required.
