·        NEWS: Recent developments and activities related to Rosemead – only item contributed was finalization of the Celebration of Charity awards this Saturday afternoon.     

 

·        EVENTS: Activities in and around Rosemead, with emphasis on Rosemead Club meetings and Rosemead Kiwanis Network activities.

NEWS

Celebration of Charity May 17

Music and information - everyone invited

Several outreach groups plus music supplied by one of our Rosemead  elementary school choral groups will combine at the United Methodist Church of  Rosemead at 3:00, pm Saturday, May 17, as an activity of the Rosemead based Servants in Deed Outreach (SIDO).  Location is 9032 Mission Drive, two doors east of Rosemead Blvd on the South side of the street.

All of the groups being honored are ones which SIDO and other Rosemead spiritual organizations have been supportive.  Speakers include: 

·         Sonali Fiske, who as part of Be The Cause helped coordinate the airlift of a plane load of clothes for children and others to Afghanistan in February as psart of a Kiwanis-supported activity.

 

·         Marlene Osborne of Grace Chapel, which has been supporting orphanage in Africa to which Grace Chapel pastor Mark Clark traveled in March – our Muscatel Builder’s Club supplied crocheted caps.

 

·         Miguel DeGuzman, United Methodist pastor and Kiwanian who has been actively involved with an orphanage in the Philippines

Also speaking will be RSIDO Board member and Kiwanian Tom Carrozzo, recently designated as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Associates for Restored Truth, also known as ART Ministries.

Music will be provided by members of the Rice Elementary School choir.

SATURDAY MAY 17 – CELEBRATION OF CHARITY

 

Rosemead‘s talented youth know how to sing. Local spiritual groups help numerous overseas missions and orphanages, but they also address needs in the local community.  On this special afternoon at Rosemead’s United Methodist Church, beginning at 3:00, both groups will give interested community members a chance to enjoy outstanding singing and learn about service opportunities. The Church is located at 9032 Mission, just east of Rosemead Blvd.

      

WEDNESDAY MAY 21, 2008 – COMMUNITY SAFETY MEETING

 

the second of what will be a monthly series of meetings on public safety issues will be held at the Public Safety Center, 830-1 Garvey Avenue.  Sponsored by the City of Rosemead with support from the Sheriff’s Department, Rosemead Kiwanis members and other groups these meetings will help harden the target against crime and deal with other safety and disaster preparedness issues.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2008 – RKC MEETING:  Strategic Planning (Regular Meeting)*

           

FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2008 - 2008 ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER LEADERSHIP AWARDS --- 4:30 – 6:30 PM at Monterey Park Service Clubs located at 440 S. McPherrin Avenue, Monterey Park, CA 91754 (see feature story last week)

 

MAY 28 – FASHION SHOW California Mission Inn, which for decades has been the situs of our Rosemead Kiwanis meetings, will be hosting a fashion show by Drapers  and Damons on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, from 2:00-4:00 in the Inn’s chapel. The show is free, but seating is expected to be limited and reservations are required.

 

 

THURSDAY MAY 29, 2008 – RKC MEETING: to be announced (Regular Meeting)*

 

     * - unless otherwise indicated, Kiwanis meetings are at 12:10 in California Mission

       Inn chapel’s multipurpose room, 4807 Earle (north of Mission ½ block on west

       side of street), Rosemead. Street parking is normally required.
