   Greetings to our K-Family (Kiwanis affiliated group of clubs) and other friends.

 

  • Below, as the fifth of an eight week test series. is a synopsis of current news

and events affecting Rosemead residents and workers.

NEWS

 

      RIF Newsletter  - The December issue of the RIF (Reading is Fundamental)

      Highlights eNewsletter is available on the rosemeadkiwanis.org website

      in a special larger than normal font format. It is intended that this will become a

      regular monthly event if the weekly version of the RKC Reporter is approved for 2008.

 

      Assemblyman Eng Meeting Community Assemblyman Michael Eng will be

      holding a “Holiday Meet and Greet” for interested persons on Thursday, December

      13 at the Rosemead Community Center, 3936 N. Muscatel Ave. from 5:30-7:30 pm.

      Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy as a donation.

      Mr. Eng’s November E-Newsletter has also been released and is posted to the

      rosemeadkiwanis.org website.

 

      After School Help Needed  – Progress is being made in the quest for persons  

      to help school age kids on either a volunteer or paid part time basis two times a

      week for three hours? Opportunities exist to share expertise in various occupations

      and skills at the elementary and junior high school levels.  For more information

      New Kiwanian OrientationSix prospective candidates, including four slated for

      immediate Induction, attended an orientation meeting in advance of the November

      29 Rosemead Kiwanis meeting.  Due to the nature of the day’s program (which

      featured a visit by Kiwanis Lt Gov. Stephen Golden) actual induction was deferred

      to a future meeting.  We also had as visitors Bianca Hong and Cindy Zhou of the

      RKC sponsored KEY Club at Rosemead High School.

        For December are sharply different than normal.  Please read carefully.

      

    Thursday, December 6 –

           Temple Intermediate Model School Recognition  11:45 lunch @ Carrow’s

           Restaurant 1021 San Gabriel Blvd., Rosemead (corner  of Walnut Grove, next

           to Charley Brown’s). with early .adjournment to Temple Intermediate School for

           special presentation by California Superintendent of Public Instruction

           Jack O’Connell.  There may be opportunity for Kiwanians to view the World in

           Flight facility, partially funded by Rosemead Kiwanis, now operational on campus.

 

            Please advise RKC Scott Wick by Wednesday if you will be coming to

            this special location so that he can advise Carrows.

 

    Thursday, December 13 –

            Weekly Kiwanis Meeting and choral presentation* 12:30 – lunch with free

            special choral presentation following in adjacent hall at 1:30 for California Mission

            Inn residents and the general community by two Temple Intermediate School choirs.

            Rosemead Kiwanis is underwriting the student bus transportation for this event.

 

     Saturday, December 15 –

           Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Governor Oscar Knight’s Official Division 10 Visit

           - location to be in Pasadena with advance reservations required to have been in

               by November 30th The luncheon will by preceded from  8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

           by a float building service  project at 700 Seco St., Pasadena.

 

    Thursday, December 20 –

            Service project in lieu of meeting 11:30 serving Xmas party for clients of Lincoln

           Training Center, 2643 Loma AvenueSouth El Monte, CA, followed by lunch

            after others have been served.

 

    Thursday, December 27 –

            Service project in lieu of meeting – Rose parade support for sponsored

            KEY (Kiwanis Educated Youth) Club members in Pasadena. Details on exact

            time and location to be provided

 

    * - unless otherwise indicated, Kiwanis meetings are at 12:10 in California Mission

         Inn chapel’s multipurpose room, 4807 Earle (north of Mission ½ block on west

         side of street), Rosemead. Street parking is normally required.
