Hugs from AJ
Passing the love forward
[Special note: this issue of the Fax of Life breaks from the normal inspirational monograph format of this series to feature a special Kiwanis project very close and personal to the Fax's publisher and second generation Editor-in-Chief].
AJ was an effervescent 7-year-old who loved life and warmed the hearts of everyone who knew him. When his family learned last summer that he had leukemia, two of AJ's great-aunts, Peggie and Patty, independently began making blankets of love for him.
Sadly, he lost his battle this the awful disease before the blankets were finished. In the days after he left us, we brain stormed what to do with the blankets. We decided that. while we can no longer hold AJ and give him the hugs we desperately want to give him, we can use the blankets as a way of passing on our love for him and his love for life. We're going to donate these blankets, and many, many more blankets, in his memory to comfort people who need comforting. In essence, when someone wraps one of these blankets around them, it will be like getting a "Hug from AJ."
We don't have all the details in place, but if you feel so moved, we invite you to join us. We can use suggestions for places to donate the blankets, offers to make more blankets, and offers of either yarn or fabric to make blankets.
